Depth and Revelation from Silence

by | Sep 28, 2018 | Spiritual Reflections

Hosea 2:14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness,
And speak comfort to her.

The prophetic preacher has discovered one secret, that depth, revelation and impact comes out of a life that values times of silence. ‘Silence is God’s first language’, so says St John of the Cross. The life of the prophetic preacher is one that has learned, that to silence the mind is to hear the heart, to hear what the spirit is saying and to come to connect with the emotions of God

In preaching there is a time to pause but if that pause goes down to the portal of personal and inner silence it will become a portal to the communication of your personal silence and devotion before God and speak words and revelation that come direct from your spiritual connection and not from the words of your mouth.

Inner silence brings the creative words that you cannot speak. It is full of answers to questions that have not been formed and for which there has been no language..

“Prophetic moments” in preaching do not come out of the best prepared sermon but out of a heart prepared by silence with words that have bypassed the mind. This is a message that does not originate in the mind but in the heart of the preacher in communion with God. Rom.8.27. He that searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is..

The act of silence does not result in the passivity that comes from the soul, quite the opposite, it encourages Divine interchange and stirs activity in the spirit.
